As a child, Mark Langa received piano lessons from a Korean concert pianist teacher. She taught him the basics of staff notation and music theory. Using this knowledge, at the age of 12 he taught himself to play the flute and subsequently also learned to play clarinet and saxophone.

He has since had the privilege of working with a numerous bands, musicians and ensembles as a flutist, clarinettist and in time a saxophonist.
